Why You'll Love This Oreo Mug Cake Recipe
I’ll note that this is NOT the 2-ingredient Oreo Mug Cake TikTok sensation where you mash up Oreos in milk and microwave it. Just no. This is a true mug cake that actually tastes like cake, with delicious Oreo flavor.
- Quick and Easy: Melt your butter, stir together the ingredients, pop in the microwave, and you’ve got dessert.
- Single Serving: Perfect for whenever that dessert craving strikes.
- Basic Ingredients: Yes, there are more than 2 ingredients, but if you are anything like our household, you have all of these in your fridge and pantry! (Oreo cookies included obvs.)
Microwave Oreo Cake Ingredients

- Butter: Yes, it’s an extra step to melt the butter before mixing with the rest of the ingredients, but butter gives you true cake-like flavor and texture. Replace with vegetable oil in a pinch. Both salted and unsalted butter are fine.
- Flour: All-purpose flour will give you the best texture.
- Sugar: You can replace the granulated sugar in this recipe with brown sugar, honey, maple syrup, or with a sugar substitute.
- Milk: Use any kind of milk you have, including non-dairy milk.
- Oreos: The crucial ingredient! If you try flavored Oreos in this cake, let me know how you like it in the comments below!
How to Make Oreo Mug Cake
Let's get started!

Melt 2 tablespoons butter and let cool slightly.

Mix together 5 tablespoons all-purpose flour, 2 tablespoons granulated sugar, ½ teaspoon baking powder, and ⅛ teaspoon kosher salt in a microwave-safe mug.

Stir in 2 tablespoons milk, ½ teaspoon vanilla extract, and the melted butter. Crush 3 Oreo cookies with your hands and stir into mug cake batter.

Microwave for 90 seconds on high. Let cool for a minute or two.
Top with whipped cream and more crushed Oreos, if desired. (In my daughter’s opinion, the whipped cream is mandatory.)
Tips For Making This Oreo Microwave Cake
Here’s a list of my favorite tips for mug cakes:
- A straight-sided mug makes it easier for the cake to rise.
- Mix your batter until just combined, and don’t overmix.
- Scrape down the batter in the mug, then wipe down the sides and rim before baking so that your mug cake cooks evenly.
- Let the cake cool a little before eating, because it is quite hot when it comes out! This also lets the batter continue cooking.
- Test out this recipe with your microwave: all microwaves are different, and you may find you need more or less time to bake your mug cake. And of course, if you like a gooey cake, you can reduce the cooking time a little.

🧐 Recipe FAQs for Oreo Mug Cake
Overbaked mug cakes are often chewy. You want the cake to rise in the mug, and look almost dry on the top when it is done. A small spot on top that still looks a little wet is ok—it will firm up and finish cooking as the mug cools a little. Also, unlike some mug cakes, this Oreo Mug Cake does not include eggs. Eggs can contribute to a chewy texture, so I don’t use them in my mug cake recipes.
You can experiment with this mug cake and replace the all-purpose flour with gluten-free flour, and make sure to use gluten-free Oreo cookies. For a fully gluten-free mug cake recipe, try my Chocolate Almond Flour Mug Cake.

Excellent recipe for Oreo lovers, thank You! Added one tablespoon of sugar instead of 2 and 1 teaspoon of vanilla sugar instead of extract, and it turned out great!
