Vin Chaud

Vin Chaud, or French mulled wine, is a delicious drink for winter nights. Red wine sweetened lightly with brown sugar and spiced with citrus, cinnamon, and ginger.

Ingredients Needed: red wine, brown sugar, orange, lemon, cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, and star anise.

Peel strips of rind off the orange for serving, then peel strips of rind off the lemon, avoiding the white pith. Slice orange into rounds.

Combine orange slices, lemon peel, red wine, brown sugar, cinnamon, star anise, ginger, and nutmeg in a large saucepan. Bring to a simmer and stir until sugar dissolves.

Turn heat down to low and cook for 20 minutes to infuse spices. Then strain into a clean saucepan and keep over very low heat.

Serve with an orange twist and cinnamon stick in each glass.
