These Halloween Truffles are the cutest mummies around! Delicious too, filled with Oreo cookie crumbs and cream cheese, and covered in white chocolate. Boo!

Many years ago, my friend Sabrina introduced me to her Oreo Truffles, and I have been making them ever since. In fact, I once had a business selling cake pops and truffles for kids’ birthday parties and baby showers. Getting them perfect is harder than it looks, but read on for my best tips!

Why Make This Recipe
- So cute: These are truly adorable, and perfect for a Halloween party.
- So tasty: If you’ve never had Oreo truffles before, you’re in for a treat. These are seriously delicious, and the white chocolate is a perfect accompaniment.
- So many applications: Once you’ve got the technique down for these, you can make them for any holiday or occasion you like, with just a bit of different decoration.
🥗 Ingredients
- Oreo Cookies: Oreo cookies are the classic for these, but you can also use other brands of chocolate sandwich cookies. Or, change up the flavor by using a flavored Oreo instead. Golden Oreos work too!
- Cream Cheese: I prefer to use the full-fat version of cream cheese for this recipe, but you could try using reduced fat cream cheese.
- White Chocolate: Any white chocolate will work for this recipe, but I prefer to use white chocolate that is in wafers already, like Candy Melts or Ghirardelli White Chocolate Melting Wafers.
- Candy Eye Balls: You can find these at well-stocked grocery stores, craft stores, or buy candy eyeballs online.
🥣 Step-by-Step Instructions
Blend 1 package of Oreos in a food processor until they are in fine crumbs. (You may need to stop and pulse the food processor several times to break up any large chunks of Oreo.)
Pour crumbs into a large bowl, and stir in 8 ounces softened cream cheese until well combined.
Form into 1.5-inch balls and place on a wax paper-lined small sheet pan or plate.
Chill in refrigerator for an hour.
Melt 15 ounces white chocolate in a candy melter, then put the candy melter on the “warm” setting.
Dip the Oreo balls one at a time into the melted white chocolate, turning them around in the chocolate until they are fully covered.
Use a dipping fork to take Oreo ball out of the chocolate and place on a sheet of waxed paper. Pull the dipping fork out from under the truffle slowly, using your finger to carefully hold the truffle in place if you need to. Let truffles dry.
If your melted chocolate has become a little dingy with Oreo crumbs, pour out the rest of it and add in another 3 ounces of white chocolate wafers to melt. Scrape clean melted white chocolate into a pastry bag with a thin tip. This will give you bright white mummy strips.
Drizzle truffles with white chocolate in two directions to make them look like mummies.
Use pastry bag to make two spots of additional melted chocolate, then press in the candy eyes to attach.
🧐 Recipe FAQs for Halloween Truffles
Yes, please refrigerate your truffles after you make them since they do contain cream cheese. I store them in an airtight container, and they will last at least a couple of weeks in the refrigerator. And, I find they are even better when cold!
These mummy Oreo balls will last at least 2 weeks in the refrigerator. You can also freeze them for up to 2 months in an airtight container or ziptop bag. Make sure the outside coating has fully hardened before putting them into a container. You way want to separate layers with wax paper or parchment paper. Defrost in the refrigerator when you’re ready to serve.
👩🍳 Expert Tips
Using a cookie scoop to scoop out the truffle dough will make your work much faster. The 1 ½-inch size is perfect for these Halloween Oreo balls. Just scoop and then use your hands to roll into a ball.
The reason we recommend a candy melter if you enjoy projects like this one is because it will hold your melted chocolate at a warm temperature. Otherwise, the melted chocolate tends to cool down quickly, and you may need to reheat to bring to a liquid form again.
However, if you don’t have a candy melter, you can melt the white chocolate either in a double boiler over the stove or in the microwave and still make this recipe. If you use the microwave, microwave chocolate at 70% power, at 30 second increments. Stir after each one. Going too fast or too hot can cause the chocolate to seize up and not melt properly.
If you find your white chocolate is too thick to dip the Oreo balls in, try adding a little bit of vegetable oil to it to make the consistency a little more liquid. Add just a little bit at a time.
If you find some of the white chocolate on your truffle comes off in the process of moving it from melter to wax paper, use a spatula to take a little of the melted chocolate out of the melter and try to gently paint it over any bare spots.
Make sure to not let any water come into contact with the chocolate, either before or after melting—it will almost definitely seize up. Any utensils you are using to stir the chocolate should be totally dry before you use them.
